Fighting Gravity

A group of fraternity boys from my university are currently semi-finalists of America's Got Talent. They are called "Fighting Gravity" and are a great talent that makes it seem like they are floating in mid air!
They performance tonight was amazing, they used skateboards and made it seem like they were skateboarding through the air!

I was lucky enough to see them before they became famous at another sororities talent show philanthropy. Everyone is super excited on campus and its on everyones facebook!

Day on the New River

Today was the sisterhood retreat for my sorority, the first big event that all of us have been back together since school started Monday. As sisterhood chair, I was in charge of the retreat and decided a relaxing day tubing down the river would be perfect (we went last year and it was a hit).
Tubing down the New River

All the Sisters

Although I was not able to tube because I had to do all the logistics and food prep (yummy Subway catered) I was able to take advantage of the nice weather and beautiful scenery (and go to the pool in the afternoon!). I always love returning to the mountains and can't wait till the fall, where we here in Blacksburg say "God must be a Hokie since every Fall the leaves turn maroon and orange."

Steve Madden

I love Steve Madden shoes and own quite a few pairs. While some of his designs are a little over the top and/or trendy, I believe most of his designs make shoes a great accessory and/or statement piece to your overall look. I tend to stay away from his heels (since they are too high for me) but his sandals and flats are always made to knockoffs.
Who doesn't want a little glitter?

Great Fall Boots!

Love the bow detail on the back!

FRIENDS Update!

I have been a longtime fan of Friends and consider it one of my favorite tv shows, even after it has been off the air for 6 years I can pop it in anytime and enjoy it. Lately I have heard some news of Friend's stars back in show biz.

Jennifer Aniston is said to guest star on Courtney Cox Arquette's show "Cougar Town," following in Lisa Kudrow's footsteps from last season.

Jen also has a new movie "The Switch."

Matt LeBlanc has a new on Showtime "Episodes" which is about a hit British comedy that is imported by an American network, which dumbs down the show and casts Matt in the lead role. Matt has to audition to play himself.

Matthew Perry reported NBC green lit his pilot of a new show called "Mr. Sunshine" about a sports manager who has a midlife crisis and is dumped by his girlfriends.

D.C. Day Trip

Today I took the metro into D.C. with my Mom for a day of sightseeing. We live so close to D.C. yet we rarely make a trip in to take advantage of all our nations capital has to offer. So my Mom suggested we go in for a day before I left for school to explore the new Holocaust Museum and the city.Mom and I in front of the Capital!

The Holocaust Museum is free but you must get a ticket beforehand to see the main exhibit which basically takes you through a time line of the events surrounding and of the Holocaust. It was very interesting and of course sad. It was, however, a lot of reading and black and white.

Next we walked through the mall to the Air and Space Museum. My Mom and I saw "Hubble 3D" which was pretty cool but was a little boring and soothing so by the end it was hard to stay awake. I am still like a kid and love the interactive part the best.We Love Smithsonian!

We then walked to Chinatown and had dinner at Gordon Biersch Brewery. We both had chicken salads and a Sampler Appetizer platter which was so good - pot stickers, wings and egg rolls. After we got cupcakes from Red Velvet, also in Chinatown to end a great day!

Great New Finds!

Lately I have noticed some great new(ish) additions to some stores that have surprised and excited me greatly!

Victoria's Secret Pink: NFL Collection
In addition to their collegiate collection and after their baseball collection, Pink released a collection for 13 NFL teams. Unfortunately, they left out my favorite team, The Baltimore Ravens, but hopefully they will be added soon so I can snag some sweats!

Hurry into B&BW because they are offering some amazing deals. I have not been in one for y about a year but needed a new lufa (only $3) so stopped by while out shopping and found my Mom's favorite PocketBac Hand Sanitizer on a special 5 for $5! With over 30 scents, who doesn't need a little one to throw into a purse or backpack. I also got a holder to put on my backpack in HOKIE colors for 50 cents!

Must Have College Items

As my little sister heads off to school, I reminisced what it was like 2 years packing up for my first year of college. While there are many lists out there with your typical sheets, towels, toiletries, etc. here are some essential items that are easy to forget.

Umbrella & Rain Boots
When you have to walk on campus almost everyday of the year, these items are a must! No one likes walking around without these in the rain, and it is even worse sitting in class soaking wet.

Flash Drive
This is easy to forget to can be an ultimate lifesaver. And if you do not want to drag your laptop around or if you work in a group this is the perfect tool to share across computers.Water bottle
A reusable water bottle is not only eco-friendly but a must-have for school. As you run around campus its not always easy to get a drink, especially during class and its always important to stay hydrated.
Stain Remover
If you are clumsy like me this is a must have, especially with dining hall foods and "party fouls." You can also get a Tide Stick on the Go, if you are really messy!
Hand Sanitizer
You never know where your hands go and a little sanitizer can help prevent all those illness college's bring. Plus you never know when there won't be soap.

Amusement Park Ratings

So now that my fun (yet exhausting) summer job is coming to an end, I thought I would use to my expertise for an amusement parks rating. We visit many amusement parks throughout the summer and after 3 years of working at Teens to Go I have defiantly raked up the frequent flyer miles of parks. If you live in the DC area, or even in the Mid-Atlantic, and want to have a day of fun read this.

6 Flags America
Maryland
Probably my least favorite park of the lot because of its bad reputation. It is also much smaller ride wise than most of the other parks. It only has a few coasters but it has a good variety of other rides and a water park.
Kings Dominion
Virginia
I have been going to KD since I was little so its always been a favorite. I think it is the overall best park for your trip. With a water park, kids area, differing levels of roller coasters, and other rides and games any age group. Plus in the last two years they have put in 2 new and awesome coasters.
Busch Gardens Europe
Virginia
Busch Gardens is really pretty but be prepared for a lot of walking and hills. There are many roller coasters but most are larger and for a more grown-up age group. The idea of different countries throughout the park is really cool and has the best shows and food. (Has a separate companion water park)
Hershey Park
Pennsylvania
Who doesn't like a little chocolate? A great overall park with coasters, rides, and a water park, its great for all ages. Plus it has my personal favorite -- Chocolate World, complete with the Chocolate Tour.

6 Flags Great Adventure
New Jersey
I have only been here once but it is a huge and great park. It has tons of coasters, including the world's fastest and tallest - Kingda Ka (of course it was closed the day we came) and the 3rd ranked wooden coaster - El Toro. Again, due to its larger rides I would suggest it for older crowd. (Has a separate companion Water Park and Safari)

Carrie Underwood - Undo It

I love Carrie Underwood and she is the only American Idol winner (or contestant for that matter) that I listen to. She recently got married and I am sure her southern Georgia wedding was gorgeous! This is my new favorite song of hers!

Fall Movie Preview

Now that all the summer blockbusters are over, its time to preview all that fall has to offer!

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - Part 1
Nov. 19
Synopsis: With Voldemort's Death Eaters now in control of the Ministry of Magic, Harry, Ron and Hermione go on a far-ranging quest to uncover the mysterious Horcruxes that will help them defeat their foe.
I am always excited for HP and can't wait for the first half of the last installment to come out!

Little Fockers
Dec. 22
Synopsis: The Focker twins' fifth birthday party brings the Focker and Byrnes clans back together.
"Meet the Parents" is one of my favorite movies, and I love any comedy with Ben Stiller in it, so Ican't wait to see little Focker's in the mix!

Tangled

November 24, 2010

Synopsis: When the rogue Flynn Rider chooses an isolated tower for his latest hideout, he has no idea the tower is already occupied by a princess who was kidnapped as an infant. Rapunzel, who can use her magical hair to heal, sees the devil-may-care bandit as her escape from the tower and a chance at a life of adventure.

I am excited to see this classic fairytale come to life under Disney but rumor has it with disappointing numbers previously in the male category, the male character is a stronger role than would be anticipated.

Blue Valentine
December 31, 2010
Synopsis: A married couple, Dean and Cindy and their relationship over a number of years by shifting between different time periods. Problems with the marriage centre around the ambition of the wife, juxtaposed to the contentment of the husband to centre his life around his wife and child.

Who can resist Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams in this Indie breakout?

Due Date
November 5th
Synopsis: An expectant dad and his unlikely travel companion race cross-country in hopes of making it home for the birth of his first child.
Can't wait to see another movie by the director of "The Hangover."
